Richard M. Amendolea - Co-inventor of the SandSave Drain System for Golf Course Sand Traps

Richard Amendolea is currently a partner at SandSave LLC, where he leads the design and manufacturing of the world’s first ACTIVE Sand Trap Drainage Technology. With a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Youngstown State University, Richard has extensive specialized training in Design of Experiments, Finite Element Analysis, Intrinsic Safety, SolidWorks 3D CAD, and TS 16949 Quality Systems.

Richard has over 30 years of diversified experience in engineering. As the founder of Vertex Development Corporation and Centricity Corporation, and a former Vice President of Engineering at Breeze Industrial Products, he has been a leader in product development. His expertise includes high-speed automation equipment, specialized mechanisms, electro-mechanical devices, and consumer product development.

Throughout his career, Richard has successfully managed teams of engineers and technicians, delivering highly engineered products on time and within budget. His expertise spans idea generation, prototyping, sourcing, and an in-depth understanding of various manufacturing processes. He is well-versed in working with metals, plastics, elastomers, and 3D printing technology.

Richard’s notable innovations include the Automatic Bar Loader for factory automation, EZ Indexer (a servo-driven rotary table product line), Glove Check (a medical device), PacePro (a rotary pick-to-light carousel), and the groundbreaking SandSave Active Sand Trap Drainage Technology.

Holding 13 patents across multiple fields, Richard is a recognized authority in engineering and automation. His published works include articles in Assembly Magazine and Machine Design, and his research on dynamically loaded helical compression springs is housed in the Youngstown State University Maag Library.

Richard is an associate member of several professional associations, including the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, the Association of Golf Course Architects, and the Golf Course Builders of America Association. He is also a past president of the Youngstown State University Alumni Association.
